Mahoney and Mailloux Named to ABCA Northeast Region First Team

Canisius College baseball players Kevin Mahoney (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Kevin Mailloux (Windsor, Ontario) were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association Northeast Region First Team. Mahoney and Mailloux earned First-Team honors for the second consecutive season. Canisius is one of the three schools, along with Army and Manhattan, to have two players named to the First Team in the Northeast Region.

Last week, Mahoney was selected in the 23rd round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft by the New York Yankees while Mailloux was taken in the 45th round by the Seattle Mariners. Earlier in the month, Mahoney and Mailloux were named ECAC Division I Second-Team All-Stars while Mailloux was honored as a Third-Team All-American by Ping! Baseball.

Mahoney, the 2009 MAAC Player of the Year, posted a .330 batting average in 57 games during his senior season and set single-season records with 67 runs scored, 22 home runs and 62 RBI. Mahoney ranks 13th in the country with his 22 home runs, which set a MAAC single-season record, and also ranks 28th in slugging percentage (.746). In his four-year career as the Golden Griffins' starting third baseman, Mahoney set a number of program records ? 216 games played, 202 runs scored, 254 hits, 52 doubles, 47 home runs, 187 runs batted in and 116 walks.

In just two years as a Golden Griffin, Mailloux had one of the most productive careers in program history. Mailloux ranks in the top 10 of nine offensive categories in the Canisius career record books. In 2009, the Windsor, Ontario native broke his own program record with 86 hits as the second baseman led the team with a .381 batting average. Mailloux also had 59 runs scored, 16 home runs and 56 runs batted in. During his two years as a Golden Griffin, Mailloux reached base in 105 of 109 games and went consecutive games without a hit one time in two years.
