Creighton Finishes Seventh at MAAC Golf Championships

Canisius sophomore Drew Creighton (pictured) fired a one-under par 71 on the final day of the 2008 MAAC Golf Championships at the Magnolia Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., and closed out the 54-hole event tied for seventh place with a score of 221. As a team, Canisius placed seventh overall with Loyola winning the conference crown after the Greyhounds posted a total team score of 879.

Creighton is second Canisius golfer in the last 10 years to place in the top-10 at the MAAC Championships and his seventh-place finish is the best for a Canisius individual since former Griffs Scott Driscoll and Randy Eich tied for sixth at the 1997 championship event. The Kenmore, N.Y., native was one of three golfers in the field to shoot under par in the championship's final round.

Junior Evan Smith shot a 74 on Sunday and finished the event tied for 14th overall with a three-day score of 228. Ryan Lydon posted a 77 in the final round and placed 37th overall, while freshman teammate Michael Knott posted an 81 to finish tied for 34th.

Loyola's Michael Mulieri capped his weekend by shooting a two-under 70 to finish with a tournament total of 211 to win the McLeod Award, presented annually to the MAAC individual champion. Loyola shot a final round team score of 279 to secure the program's fourth MAAC team title in the last six years. Rider took second-place honors with a team score of 893 and Iona rounded out the top three with a score of 908.
