Box Score

JERSEY CITY, N.J. ? Getting a game-high 16 points from Lauma Reke and forcing 22 turnovers, Saint Peter's defeated the Canisius College women's basketball team 66-50 at the Yanitelli Center on Friday night. The loss is the fifth straight for the Griffs, which is the longest losing streak since the 1999-2000 season.

Freshman Micayla Drysdale led Canisius (10-15, 5-9 MAAC) with a career-high 18 points while sophomore Ellie Radke had 10 points. Drysdale also had a team-high five assists while only committing one turnover in 35 minutes.

The teams stayed close for the majority of the first half with Saint Peter's (17-8, 9-5) holding as big as a five-point lead after a layup by Natasha Morris at the 14:01 mark. Canisius then scored six straight points ? getting a 3-pointer from Radke and Drysdale to make it 12-11 just 37 seconds later.

With the Griffs holding a 25-24 lead after a 3-pointer by Drysdale at the 3:48 mark, the Peahens scored the final four points of the half to take the three-point lead into the locker room.

Saint Peter's extended its lead to 10 with an 8-1 run to start the second half, getting five points from Morris and three from Tania Kennedy. A layup by Brittan? Russell ended a field-goal drought of 6:55 for the Griffs and made the score 36-28.

The Griffs got as close as three, after a 3-pointer by Drysdale made it 40-37 with 14 minutes remaining. Saint Peter's then held the Griffs to three field goals the rest of the game to improve to 13-1 at home this season.

“We turned the ball over a lot in the first half and allowed Reke to get into a rhythm and produce,” Canisius coach Terry Zeh said. “The beginning of the second half was a key sequence, making a three-point game into a double-digit lead for them in just a few minutes.”

Reke led the Peahens with 18 points while Johnell Burts and Kennedy each had 11.

Canisius closes out its weekend road trip on Sunday, when the Griffs play at Iona. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
