Swimming and Diving Returns to Pool at CSU

The Canisius College swimming and diving team returned to the pool on Saturday, with a multi-team meet at the Busby Natatorium on the campus of Cleveland State University. The Golden Griffin men defeated Duquesne 123-87, but lost 195-40 to the host Vikings and 159.6-69.5 to Xavier. The Golden Griffin women lost 155-62 to the host Vikings, 181-33 to Xavier and 172-43 to Duquesne.

Kaeli Abdo won both diving events, taking the 1-meter with a total of 215.93 points while winning the 3-meter with a total of 229.79 points. On the men's side, Adam Salemi took second in both the 1-meter (155.25) and 3-meter (147.53).

The Golden Griffin men had 11 season-best performances in the meet. Kevin O'Donnell had the best finish for the Griffs in the meet, taking fourth place in the 100 freestyle with a season-best time of 49.15. Freshman Mike Reilley cut more than 15 seconds off his season-best time in the 1,000 freestyle, posting a time of 10:51.33 to finish fifth among nine swimmers. Brendon Barker finished in 11:37.19 and knocked seven seconds off his season-best time. In the 200 freestyle, John Morphis (2:05.39) and Dave Jefferys (2:08.73) each posted their best times of the year. Salemi had a season best time in the 200 IM (2:09.08).

The men's 200 medley relay of Jack Kennon, O'Donnell, Zack Jenkins and Sean Carroll posted a time of 1:41.24, .14 seconds off the season-best time and finished fourth in the event.

Senior Jessie Hall finished eighth in the 100 freestyle with a season-best time of 58.21. Charlotte Scythes posted a season-best time in the 200 freestyle (2:20.45).

Canisius hosts its first of two home meets this season on Thursday. The Griffs host Niagara at 6 pm in the Koessler Athletic Center pool.
