Men’s 400 Free Relay Sets School Mark on Final Day of MAAC Championships

The men's 400 free relay set a school record to highlight the Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving program's effort on the final day of competition Saturday in the 2026 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

The Golden Griffins quartet of seniors Toby Mayfield and Sam Vidal, junior Tom McCabe and freshman Peyton Gilliland established a program mark in the 400 free relay in 3:03.28, breaking the old mark of 3:04.17 that was set during the 2022-23 season.

Sophomore Luke Critchlow placed fourth in the men's 1650 free, posting a time of 16:19.06. Freshman Luke Nagle gave the Griffs a second top-eight finish in the event, placing eighth with a time of 16:30.14.

Vidal took eighth in the men's 200 breast, touching the wall in 2:02.12. Junior Atticus Hlubin claimed first (9th overall) in B final of the men's 200 breast, finishing in 2:00.92.

Mayfield placed sixth in the men's 200 fly, finishing the race in 1:52.31.

In the men's 1-meter diving competition, freshman Leo Rodriguez won the B final with a score of 168.40.

For the Canisius women, sophomore Daphne Mead closed out her stellar meet with a seventh-place finish in the women's 200 fly, touching the wall in 2:07.87.

Junior SaraJo Gardner took eighth in the women's 200 back, finishing the race in 2:06.36.

Junior Evie Leighton claimed sixth in the women's 100 free, crossing the finish line in 51.83.

In the team competition, The Canisius women finished in a tie for seventh place with Rider with 516 total points. The men, meanwhile, also placed seventh with a team score of 569 total points.
