Leighton, Mead Break School Marks on Day Three of MAAC Championships

Junior Evie Leighton and sophomore Daphne Mead both set school records to pace the Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving teams on the third day of competition at the 2026 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Friday at the SPIRE institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Mead broke her second school record of the meet as she opened the women's 400 medley relay with a 100 back split of 55.65, shattering the previous mark set by Jordan O'Connor during the 2023-24 season. The medley relay, featuring Mead, Leighton and juniors Cassandra Ercoli and Leyna Swanson, claimed fifth with a time of 3:50.01.

Leighton, meanwhile, established a school mark of 1.49.54 in the women's 100 free as she took fourth place. Leighton's time eclipsed the previous school mark established by Lana Jansen during the 2022-23 season.

Ercoli placed eighth in the women's 100 breast, touching the wall in 1:05.15. Senior Tori Spacciapolli took fourth place in the B final (12th overall) of the women's 100 breast with a time of 1:06.19. Mead also finished second in the B final of the 100 fly (10th overall), turning in a time of 57.03.

For the Canisius men, senior Toby Mayfield placed third in the B final of the men's 100 fly (11th overall), touching the wall in 49.61.

Senior Sam Vidal claimed eighth in the men's 100 breast (55.64) and junior Atticus Hlubin placed second in the B final (10th overall), finishing in 55.75.

The men's 400 medley relay, consisting of Vidal, Mayfield, and juniors Elliott Somers and Tom McCabe, placed seventh with a time of 3:19.26.

Heading into the final day of competition, the Canisius women sit in eighth place with a team total of 354 points. The Golden Griffin men find themselves in seventh place with a three-day total of 376.5.
