Hockey Continues Road Swing at UConn

Canisius continues a three-game road trip and a stretch comprised of seven of eight games on the road with a two-game weekend series at Connecticut.

Canisius starts a stretch of seven of its next eight games on the road with tonight's game against the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Canisius is 0-9-1 in 10 road games this season, its worst start since 1991--92 when the team didn't win a road game.

Canisius is currently in eighth place in Atlantic Hockey, three points out of sixth.

The Griffs took two from the Huskies in Connecticut last season and have won six of the last seven in the series.

Jason Weeks (Seattle, Wash) had his first career hat trick Jan. 6, against Army, which included a school-record two shorthanded goals. It was the first Canisius hat trick since March 3, 2000 ? a span of 197 games.

He was named the Atlantic Hockey Co-Rookie of the Week Monday, the fourth Canisius freshman to win an award this season.

Weeks is tied for second in the country with three shorthanded goals.

Weeks has five goals in two games and is the third player to accomplish that feat since the program went to the Division I level.

Michael Cohen (Williamsville, N.Y.) set the school record for power-play goals at the Division I level with his 18th in the 4-3 win over Army.

Josh Heidinger (Buffalo, N.Y.) is sixth nationally among rookies with 25 points.

Carl Hudson (Smooth Rock Falls, Ont.) is tied for eighth in the country with seven power-play goals. Hudson is two away from the program record for most power-play goals in a season since Canisius went to Division I.

Canisius has tallied a power-play goal in the last eight contests.

Chris Forsman (Powell River, B.C.) had a career-high two assists in the Jan. 9 game against RIT.

Canisius had a season-low four penalties in the Jan. 9 game against RIT.
Weeks on Fire

Jason Weeks has five goals in the last two contests. He is the third player in the last nine seasons to score five times in two games.

Chris Duggan had five goals from Jan. 15-16, 2000, and Brad Kenny had five from Jan. 30 to Feb. 5, 2000.

Duggan had two more goals in the next game and holds the record for goals in a three-game stretch with seven.
RIT Recap

Canisius played its first Tuesday night conference game since January 2005 against the Rochester Institute of Technology and lost 6-3 to the Tigers.

Jason Weeks had two more goals and now has five in the last two games.

Andrew Loewen earned the start in net and has started the last five conference games for the Griffs and nine of the last 10.

Chris Forsman (Powell River, B.C.) set a career high with two assists.

Bret Norris (Snowmass, Colo.) had his first assist since March 3, 2006, against Mercyhurst.
Scouting Connecticut

The Huskies are 7-7 in Atlantic Hockey and 4-4 in their last eight games.

Of Connecticut's leading scorers, three of the top four and six of the top 11 are seniors.

Power Play Streaking

The Canisius power play has tallied a goal in the last eight games.

In that eight-game stretch, the Griffs have had two power-play goals three times.

Canisius is converting 19.6 percent of its power plays during the stretch while its opponents are converting 19.2.

The last time the Griffs didn't have a power-play goal was Nov. 18, against Mercyhurst.
Weeks Brings Total to Eight

So far this season, Canisius freshmen have totaled eight awards ? six Atlantic Hockey Rookies of the Week honors and two Goaltenders of the Week.

Jason Weeks became the fourth Canisius freshman to win a weekly award when he was named the Atlantic Hockey Co-Rookie of the Week Jan. 8, after his hat trick in the Jan. 6 game against Army.

Carl Hudson was named the Rookie of the Week Oct. 9 and Nov. 6.

Josh Heidinger earned Rookie of the Week honors Oct. 23 and Nov. 13.

Freshman Andrew Loewen earned Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week honors Dec. 10 and Nov. 20 as well as Rookie of the Week honors Oct. 16.
