Hockey Drops Series Opener at RIT

RIT used goals from three different players and a 21-save performance from goaltender Jakub Krbecek to defeat Canisius, 3-1, in Atlantic Hockey America action Friday at the Gene Polisseni Center in Rochester, N.Y.

Austin Brimmer, Caleb Elfering and Simon Isabelle all scored for the Tigers (10-6-0, 7-4-0 AHA), who snapped a four-game losing skid with the victory. That would be all the support that Krbecek would need as the turned aside all but one of the 22 shots he faced to earn his 10th victory of the campaign.

Senior Oliver Tarr accounted for the lone goal for the Golden Griffins (7-8-2, 3-6-2 AHA). Senior Chase Clark finished the contest with 24 saves.

After a scoreless first, Brimmer gave RIT a 1-0 lead at the 13:27 mark of the second period when he beat Clark to the blocker side from the middle of the slot for his fifth goal of the campaign.

The teams traded goals during a 49-second sequence in the middle stages of the third period.

Elfering began the sequence at the 11:46 mark of the third, doubling the RIT advantage when he deposited a feed from Christian Catalano into the Canisius goal during a delayed penalty call.

Tarr brought the Griffs within one on the next shift when he deflected junior Joe Messina's point shot home to make it a 2-1 contest.

RIT put the game out of reach in the final minute regulation as Isabelle scored into an empty net to determine the 3-1 margin.
