Hockey Records Tie with Air Force, Posts Shootout Victory

Senior Killian Kiecker-Olson scored twice in regulation and added a goal in the shootout to pace Canisius in a 3-3 tie and shootout victory versus Air Force in Atlantic Hockey America action Saturday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.

Junior Rhys Chiddenton recorded the first goal for the Golden Griffins (7-7-2, 3-5-2 AHA), who picked up the extra point as they won the best-of-three shootout, 2-1. Senior Chase Clark got the start in goal and finished with 20 saves.

Chris Hedden notched two goals for the Falcons (8-6-2, 5-4-1 AHA) while Will Dawson registered the first goal for the visitors. Dominik Wasik made 29 stops between the pipes.

Dawson opened the scoring just before the six-minute mark of the first with a power-play goal as he beat Clark on a wraparound attempt.

Chiddenton brought the Griffs level with 13:30 elapsed in the opening frame when he beat Wasik to the blocker side on the rush for his fourth goal of the season.
Kiecker-Olson gave Canisius the lead a little more than three minutes after Chiddenton's equalizer when he scored on a shorthanded breakaway to make it a 2-1 contest. Hedden tied the game with his first of the afternoon moments before the five-minute mark of the second period, firing a wrist through traffic from the point that eluded Clark and knotted the score at 2-2.

The teams traded goals late in the third period to force overtime as Kiecker-Olson gave the Griffs a 3-2 lead with an unassisted effort at 16:21 mark of the third before Hedden answered back for Air Force with an extra attacker goal with less than two minutes to play to tie the game at 3-3.
After neither team was able to find the back of the net during 3-on-3 overtime, the game headed to a shootout, where Kiecker-Olson and fellow senior Grant Porter both converted their opportunities while Clark stopped two of three attempts from the Falcons to earn the extra point.
