Hockey Falters in Third Period Versus Air Force

Air Force scored four goals in the third period to erase a one-goal deficit and defeat Canisius, 6-3, in Atlantic Hockey America action Friday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.

Anthony Yu, Holt Oliphant, Sam Stitz and Ren Morque all scored during the final frame for the Falcons (8-6-1, 5-4-0 AHA), who picked up their third straight win with Friday's victory.

Nolan Cunningham and Nick Sajevic accounted for the other two Air Force goals while Dominik Wasik made 29 saves between the pipes for the visitors.

Senior Killian Kiecker-Olson, sophomore Hunter Price and freshman Cole Miller accounted for the three goals from the Golden Griffins (7-7-1, 3-5-1 AHA). Senior Chase Clark got the start in goal for Canisius and finished with 23 saves.

Trailing 3-2 at the start of the third period, Yu brought the Falcons level at the 7:18 mark of the third before Oliphant gave Air Force its first lead of the game when he deflected Cunningham's point shot past Clark with just over six minutes remaining.

Stitz provided some breathing room with less than six minutes to go in regulation with his sixth of the campaign before Morque closed out the third-period barrage with an empty net goal with 1:51 remaining to secure the victory.

Earlier in the contest, Miller gave Canisius a 1-0 lead at the 5:02 of the first period, beating Wasik with a shot to the glove side from the middle of the slot for his first collegiate tally.
Price doubled the Griffs advantage to 2-0 in the final minute of the opening frame, depositing a centering feed from sophomore Jason Gallucci past Wasik while on the rush for his second goal of the campaign. Air Force tied the game early in the second period with two goals in 54-second span. Cunninghamm got the Falcons on the board with 7:16 elapsed in the middle frame with a shot from the point before Sajevic knotted the score moments later on a shot from close range to make it a 2-2 game.

Kiecker-Olson restored the Canisius lead less than two minutes after Sajevic's equalizer, flipping the puck over an outstretched Wasik from close range to put the Griffs back in front, 3-2, setting the stage for Air Force's third-period comeback.
