Women's Basketball Heads to Fairfield

  • The Canisius College Golden Griffins return to the road for the first time this month when the team travels to face Fairfield in Bridgeport, Conn.
  • The Griffs enter this afternoon's game with an 12-9 overall record and an 9-3 mark in conference play after dropping Loyola 87-81 at home Feb. 5.
  • The 87-points scored by Canisius against Loyola is the most for the team this season - that coming just two days after the Griffs scored 52 points in a win over Manhattan.
  • The 52-points scored in the win Feb. 3, against Manhattan set a new program record for fewest points scored by Canisius in a win at home.
  • Senior Cheri Wittlieb posted a career-high 26 points in the Blue and Gold's win over Loyola - her previous career high was 22 points, which she scored Feb. 23, 2003, in an overtime win at Fairfield.
  • As a team, Canisius went 32-for-42 (76.2 percent) from the free-throw line against Loyola. The 32-made free throws is the second most in school history - the Griffs made 34 charity chances in a home win over Manhattan Jan. 30, 2000.
  • The 42 attempts from the free throw line against Loyola also ranks second in school history - Canisius took 44 free throws in a win at Niagara March 1, 1990.
  • The Griffs were credited with a season-high 13 steals against Loyola - the second-straight game the team has been credited for 10 or more steals.
  • In the victory over the Greyhounds, junior guard Jessie Lamparski was credited with four steals to give her 104 in her career, which ranks 18th in program history.
  • Canisius posted an 85-73 win over Fairfield in the first meeting of the season between these two schools Jan. 20, in Buffalo.
  • The Griffs have won four straight against the Stags dating back to the 2003-04 season and boast a record of 3-1 in games played in The Arena at Harbor Yard.
  • Canisius opponents have shot better than 40 percent from the field in each of the last four games after Loyola shot 49.2 percent from the floor Feb. 5, in the Koessler Athletic Center.
  • Senior guard Becky Zak enters this afternoon's game ranked second in the MAAC in free throw shooting percentage at 85.9 percent. Her 76.8 career percentage from the line ranks her fifth in program history (among players with 150-career makes).
  • The Blue and Gold is 2-0 this month after sweeping Manhattan and Loyola at home last weekend. Over the last three seasons, Canisius is 16-3 in February contests.
  • Canisius enters today's contest with at least one 3-point basket in the last 352 games. The last time the Griffs went without a 3-pointer was Jan. 8, 1993, when the Blue and Gold went 0-for-9 from behind the arc in a 79-65 home loss to Fairfield.

Scouting Fairfield
  • Fairfield enters this afternoon's game with a 9-13 overall record and a 6-7 MAAC mark.
  • The Stags are currently on a three-game losing streak after falling at Manhattan by a 58-52 score Feb. 9.
  • Sophomore guard Sabra Wrice leads the Stags in scoring, posting a team-best 14 points, which ranks fourth in the MAAC.
  • Fairfield has no player pulling down more than six boards per game, with Clare Faurote leading the way with 5.6 boards per outing.
  • As a team, Fairfield is shooting 38.1 percent from the field and 29.7 percent from behind the 3-point arc.
  • Including this afternoon's contest, three of Fairfield's final four games will be played at home, where the Stags are 4-4 this season.
Series History vs. Fairfield
  • This afternoon's game between the Golden Griffins and the Stags will be the 36th all-time meeting between these two schools, with Fairfield holding a 22-14 lead in the series.
  • Canisius won the first meeting of the 2005-06 season Jan. 20, in Buffalo by an 85-73 count.
  • The Griffs have taken the last four games in this series after sweeping the regular season series last year for the first time in program history.
  • Dating back to the 2002 MAAC Tournament in Albany, N.Y., three of the last eight meetings between the Griffs and Stags have gone to overtime.
