Men's Basketball Opens Five-Game Road Swing at Youngstown State

Tonight's Game
  • Canisius opens a five-game road trip at Youngstown State in a rematch of last year's Bracketbusters game, which was won 75-68 by the Golden Griffins in the Koessler Center.
  • Canisius is coming off an 81-71 home loss to No. 17 Syracuse in HSBC Arena. The Golden Griffins are 1-1 on the road this season.
  • Youngstown State dropped a 91-57 decision at No. 4 Ohio State last Friday and has lost its last two contests. The Penguins defeated Slippery Rock 95-57 in their only home game this season.
  • This is Canisius' first-ever game in the Beeghly Center. Canisius remains on the road until a Dec. 20 contest against Robert Morris in the Koessler Center.

  • Chuck Harris' 24 points against the Orange is a career high. It was the fourth time the senior has scored 20 or more in his career.
  • Frank Turner also posted career-highs of 10 rebounds and eight assists, while Shaun James had a career-high nine boards.
  • The Griffs had 54 rebounds vs. Syracuse. Before that outing, the last time Canisius had 50 or more rebounds was vs. Fairleigh Dickinson Dec. 2, 2005, when the Blue and Gold posted 50 caroms.

  • Before last Wednesday's win at Colgate, the Griffs' last overtime victory was a 91-84 win at Saint Peter's Feb. 24, 2006.
  • Canisius committed 30 turnovers at West Virginia. The last time Canisius had 30 or more giveaways was in an 86-71 loss at St. Francis (Pa.) Dec. 19, 1993.
  • This is the 103rd season of Canisius basketball.
  • Corey Herring was selected second-team All-MAAC, and Darnell Wilson earned third-team all-league honors in the conference's Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Including the coaching staff, 12 new faces are on the Griff bench this season.
  • One familiar face on the bench is Fr. Paul Dugan, who is in his 35th season at Canisius as the athletics moderator.
  • Two Griff seniors have a chance to reach the 1,000 career point mark this season. Wilson needs 54 points, and Chuck Harris needs 248.
  • Wilson also needs 122 rebounds to join Micheal Meeks (1992-96) as the only players in school history to record over 1,000 points, 600 rebounds, 100 blocked shots and 100 steals.
  • Harris also needs 65 rebounds and 48 assists to join Brian Smith (1984-88) and Craig Wise (1991-95) as the only Canisius players with over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 300 assists. He has started the last 65 contests.
  • Canisius is 17-34 in non-conference games in the last six seasons.

  • Keston Roberts led the Penguins with 19 points, while Quin Humphrey and Derrick Harris each scored 10.
  • Canisius has never played Youngstown State on the road. The Griffs are 21-21 against teams from the Horizon League and went 1-1 last season.
