Volleyball Places Fifth at the MAAC Tournament

The Canisius College volleyball team secured it's best season since 1998 with a 3-0 win (30-24, 30-19, 30-23) over Iona in the fifth place game at the 2002/JetBlue MAAC Championships in Orlando, Fla., Tuesday morning.

Canisius finishes the season 11-19 overall, 5-4 in the MAAC. Iona, who entered the tourney as the second seed, falls to 24-12 overall, 8-1 in conference.

Three Golden Griffs posted double digit kills, led by sophomore Christina Wildes' game-high 15 kills. Kim Hoffman had 14 kills while freshman Leigh Launhardt added 10 kills and two solo blocks. Senior Jennifer DeBee had eight kills and hit .571 in her final collegiate contest.

Junior setter Jackie Reed had a game-high 45 assists, while senior libero Kelly Sieber, who was named the conference's co-Defensive Player of the Year on Monday night, finished her career in Blue and Gold with a game-best 15 digs.
