Canisius Male Rookie of the Year Finalists Unveiled

The finalists for the 2024-25 Canisius Male Rookie of the Year have been announced. Fans are encouraged to vote for their favorite finalist through 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 9. The winner will be announced on Friday, June 13.

In alphabetical order, the finalists are:

Peter Biglin – Men's Lacrosse
• MAAC All-Rookie Team selection
• Took part in 15 games, making 10 starts
• Scored seven goals and added six assists for 13 points
• Also pitched in 21 ground balls
• Recorded an assist in collegiate debut versus Hobart (Feb. 8)
• Tallied a goal and an assist versus Little Three rival St. Bonaventure (March 11)
• Dished out two assists in 10-9 triumph versus Merrimack (March 15)
• Finished with two goals in 12-6 victory at Mount St. Mary's (April 5)

Fenway Breckels – Cross Country/Track
• Made collegiate debut in the Little Three Championships, placing sixth and posting a season-best 5k time of 16:03.8 (Sept. 6)
• Ran season-best 8k time in the 2024 MAAC Championships crossing the line in 26:25.2 (Nov. 2)
• Posted a PR in the 3000-meter race at the YSU Mid Major Invitational with a time of 8:47.41 (Feb. 1)
• Placed fifth and ran a PR in the mile at the SPIRE Collegiate Indoor Games, crossing the line in 4:23.08 (Feb. 15)
• Posted a PR in the 800-meter race at the SPIRE Collegiate Indoor Games with a time of 1:59.81 (Feb. 15)
• Part of the men's 4x800 team that placed sixth at the 2025 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 23)
• Member of the men's DMR team that placed fourth at the 2025 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 22)
• Ran leg of 4x800 relay that took fourth in the MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships (May 11)

Carter Patterson – Hockey
• Skated in 28 games
• Recorded one goal and four assists for five points
• Ranked third on the squad with 45 blocked shots
• Recorded first career point with an assist against Mercyhurst (Oct. 22)
• Tallied an assist against Mercyhurst (Nov. 22)
• Scored first collegiate goal in 5-2 victory over RIT (Jan. 11)
• Notched an assist in series finale against AIC (Jan. 25)

Evan van der Plas – Men's Basketball
• Played in all 31 games, one of four Griffs to play in every game during the 2024-25 season
• Made 11 starts, including the team's season-opener at nationally-ranked Arizona on Nov. 4
• Became the first true freshman to start the Griffs' season-opener since the 2017-18 campaign
• Is the first Canisius freshman to play in every game for the Griffs since Takal Molson in 2017-18
• Scored a season-high 10 points in the road loss at Sacred Heart Jan. 5
• Was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week Dec. 16 after he scored eight points and grabbed two rebounds in a home loss to Maine on Dec. 14
• Grabbed five-or more rebounds in four games, highlighted by his season-high six boards at Rider (March 6)
