Track Opens Outdoor Slate at Geneseo Early Season Invite

The Canisius men's and women's track teams open the outdoor portion of its 2025 season Saturday when it takes part in the SUNY Geneseo Early Season Invite at the SUNY Geneseo Track and Field Complex in Geneseo, N.Y.

Competition begins at 9:45 a.m. with the women's 10,000-meter race and continues throughout the day with the final event, the men's 4x400-meter relay, slated for a 6:35 p.m. start.

The Golden Griffins head into to the spring looking to build upon an indoor season that was capped by five Top-11 individual finishes and a six-place result by the men's 4x800 relay at the 2025 MAAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Junior Kyle Urban led the way on the men's side during the MAAC Indoor Championships with a sixth-place finish in the 3000m race with a time of 8:28.33. Last season, Urban took 11th place in the 1500-meter finals at the MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, crossing the finish line in 4:04.36.

On the women's side, junior Jacqueline Appenheimer placed eighth in the one mile final at the MAAC Indoor Championships, crossing the line in 5:05.69. Senior Kayla Schmidt came in 11th in the 3000m race with a time of 10:00.66.

Both Appenheimer and Schmidt had solid showings at the SUNY Geneseo Early Season Invitational, with Appenheimer finishing third in the 1500-meter (4:42.76) placing eighth in the 800-meter (2:21.89) while Schmidt claiming third in the 5000-meter race with a time of 17:36.78.
