Rowing Concludes Weekend at Knecht Cup

The Canisius rowing team rounded out their second straight weekend of competition with an appearance in the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J. on Saturday and Sunday. 
 
The first race on Saturday was the Frosh/Novice 4+ where the Golden Griffins posted a third-place finish at 9:47.76. The result qualified the boat for the petite final on Sunday morning where the group notched a 9:00.63 result that claimed fourth place.

The Varsity 4+ boat was the next Canisius race to take off on Saturday morning, finishing at the 9:27.35 mark in fourth place but did not qualify for the semifinals.
 
Moving into the afternoon on Saturday the Griffs saw the 2V8 boat tally a third-place finish in their heat at 7:46.41, qualifying for the petite final on Sunday morning, where the Griffs notched a fourth-place result at 7:31.1.

The Varsity 8+ boat rounded out the weekend as they took to the water. The group finished with a time of 7:33.93 which was good for fourth place in the heat, qualifying for the semifinals. The boat posted a sixth-place result in the semifinal heat at 7:48.49, qualifying them for the second petite final on Sunday. In the second petite final, the Griffs clocked a 7:02.97 finish, which was good enough for third place.


RACE NOTES
• Canisius notched wins against conference rivals Fairfield and Stetson on their way to finals on Sunday, and bested other Division I non-conference opponents, including Duquesne, Fordham and Lehigh.
• The Knecht Cup was a two day regatta that featured 58 schools from across the country.
The last time that Canisius competed in the Knecht Cup was 2017.

Canisius returns to the water April 19 at the New York State Championships. The first race on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. begins at 9 a.m.
