Rowing Earns Three Final Bids at NYS Collegiate Championships

The Canisius rowing team earned two appearances in petit-finals and one in a grand final at the NYS Collegiate Championships on Saturday on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
 
The Varsity Eight kicked off the day with a third-place finish at 7:25.6 to qualify for the petit-final and the 2V8 shell followed suit, finishing in third-place with a 7:35.34 result which also was good for a bid to its petit-final.

Canisius rounded out its morning session with the Varsity 4+ which placed second at 8:45.66 and earned an appearance in the grand final.

In the afternoon, the Varsity 8+ took to the water for its petit-final entry where the Golden Griffins earned second-place with a time of 7:32.69, finishing behind victorious Rochester.

The Second Varsity 8+ group won its petit-final later on in the day with a 7:52.1 result and bested programs such as St. Lawrence, Rochester, Ithaca, Vassar and Army.

Canisius rounded out the day with its Varsity 4+ boat which was the only shell to earn an invitation to a grand final where the group logged a sixth place time of 9:46.55.

Canisius is scheduled to race for a third consecutive week against Marist on Saturday followed by the Black Rock Cup on Sunday. The head-to-head with the Red Foxes and Sunday's regatta consisting of four schools are both scheduled for 10 a.m. at the West Side Rowing Club in Buffalo, N.Y.
