Rowing Picks Up Three Wins at Black Rock Cup

The Canisius rowing team completed a two-day stretch of racing on Saturday and Sunday, hosting the Black Rock Cup at the West Side Rowing Club in Buffalo, N.Y.

DAY 1 RECAP
In Saturday's slate, Canisius and Marist competed head-to-head with the Red Foxes collecting wins in all three races.

Marist clocked a 6:34.5 finish ahead of Canisius which came in at 6:51.3 in the Varsity 8+ heat.


The Red Foxes entered two boats in the Second Varsity 8+ heat with the 2V8 shell winning the event with a 6:57.2 finish. Canisius docked a 7:04.2 result before the 3V8 shell for Marist rounded out the heat at 7:38.8.


Marist launched two boats as well in the Varsity 4+ heat and was able to place first and second to round out the afternoon. The 1V4 boat and 2V4 boats finished at 7:48.8 and 7:59.1, respectively, while Canisius placed in third with a time of 8:13.5.


DAY 2 RECAP
The Blue and Gold opened its second day of racing by defeating Mercyhurst in the opening round, crossing the line in 6:58.9, more than 19 seconds ahead of the Lakers. The result advanced the Griffs to the second round to face Marist.

In the 1V8 final, Canisius posted a time of 7:00.8, falling to Marist, which recorded the top time of the day at 6:39.5.


Canisius' 2V8 defeated Marist's 3V entry in the opening round with a time of 7:00.87. In the next round, the Griffs faced Marist's 2V boat and finished in 7:12.2, placing behind the Red Foxes' 7:02.4 result.


In the varsity four races, Canisius dropped its opening race to Marist (7:54.3 to 7:28.5) but rebounded later in the day with a win over Mercyhurst in the V4, posting a time of 7:53.4.

Canisius continues its spring slate at the Duquesne Invitational in Pittsburgh, Pa. on May 2nd.
