Giampa Selected as Finalist for AHA Individual Sportsmanship Award

Canisius sophomore forward Matteo Giampa has been named a finalist for the Atlantic Hockey America's Individual Sportsmanship Award, league officials announced on Thursday.

Giampa is one of three finalists as Army defenseman Mac Gadowsky and Niagara forward Shane Ott were also nominated. The winner will be announced by the league on March 18.

A native of Virgil, Ontario, Giampa was whistled for just five minor penalties during the 2024-25 campaign, never committing more than one infraction in any game he was penalized in. He also kept himself out of the penalty box as the season went on as he was charged with two minor penalties over the final 17 games of the season.

Giampa, an All-AHA Second Team selection, appeared in all 37 games for the Griffs, leading the squad in both points (29) and assists (22) while ranking second on the team in goals (8) during conference play.

Finding himself among the top six players in the league in both points and assists versus league competition, Giampa registered multiple points on seven occasions, highlighted by a career-high five points and four assists in a 6-3 victory versus Mercyhurst back on Oct. 22.
