Swimming and Diving Opens Home Slate Friday versus Geneseo

The Canisius swimming and diving teams open the home portion of their schedule Friday as it welcomes SUNY Geneseo to the Burt Flickinger Center for a 6 p.m. dual meet in downtown Buffalo.

The Golden Griffins are back in the pool after the men secured a 168-125 win over the University of Rochester while the Canisius women suffered a 176-5-122.5 setback to the Yellow Jackets in a tri-meet at the U of R last Saturday that saw the women fall to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Siena, 155-143.

Sophomore Daphne Mead was named the MAAC Women's Swimmer of the Week after she won both the 200 back and the 200 IM races, setting pool records at Rochester's Speegle-Wilbraham Aquatic Center in both events.  She also swam a leg of the 200 medley relay, which opened the tri-meet with a first-place finish.

On the men's side, senior Sam Vidal claimed victories in the 100 breast and 500 free while sophomore Giovanni Poggio also won two events, touching the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard IM. In addition to his two individual event victories, Vidal was part of the 200 medley relay that took first place, touching the wall nearly three seconds ahead of second-place Rochester.

UP NEXT
Canisius travels to Vestal, N.Y. on Nov. 1 for a dual meet against Binghamton. Start time for the meet between the Griffs and Bearcats is slated for 1 p.m. at the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center.
