Hockey Duo Recognized with AHA Weekly Awards

Canisius senior goaltender Chase Clark and junior forward Walter Zacher were both recognized as Atlantic Hockey America revealed its weekly award winners on Tuesday.

Clark was tabbed the circuit's Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season while Zacher garnered AHA Forward of the Week honors after both played pivotal roles in helping guide the Golden Griffins to a 2-1-0 record in their three road contests last week.

A native of Williamsville, N.Y., Clark started all three games between the pipes and fashioned a 2.71 goals against average and a .914 save percentage. In Canisius' AHA opener against Army on Oct. 14, Clark stopped 29-of-30 shots faced in a 3-1 triumph and followed that performance with a 20-save effort in a 4-2 victory in the series opener at Colgate on Oct. 17. He finished out the busy week with a season-high 36 stops in the finale against the Raiders on Oct. 18.

Zacher, meanwhile, racked up four goals and added an assist for a team-high five points during the three-game stretch. The Buffalo product tallied the opening goal for the Griffs in all three contests, getting Canisius on the board less than four minutes into the game at Army while striking midway through the second period in the series opener at Colgate. Zacher also recorded the primary assist on the game-winning goal in the victory against the Raiders on Friday before closing out the week with his first multiple-goal effort in Blue and Gold, tallying two goals in the series finale versus the Central New York foes.

Canisius returns to action this weekend as it travels to defending AHA Tournament champion Bentley for a two-game series at Bentley Arena in Waltham, Mass.
Game one between the Griffs and Falcons is slated for a 7 p.m. start on Friday while Saturday's finale is scheduled for a 6 p.m. puck drop.
