ON THE WATER:
The Canisius rowing team continues its 2024 spring campaign by racing in the New York State Championships. The Golden Griffins last raced in the event during the 2022 spring season and under head coach Kerri Brace have raced in it twice previously.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Griffs began their spring season at Stetson (April 6), finishing second in all three races. Their closest race came in the 2v8 with the Hatters pulling away in the last few moments, winning by 2.700 seconds with a final time of 7:55.700. It was the first time since the 2018 season that Canisius began the spring season with a race outside of New York state.

DONE THIS BEFORE:
A handful of Griffs raced at Canisius the last time they partook in the New York State Championships. For seniors Olivia Merolle and Destiny Severn along with junior Hannah Kenefick, they were a part of the varsity eight shell that placed fourth at the 2022 New York State Championships. Graduate student Jaime Bennett and juniors Morgan Marsllo, Cece Reiser and Skylar Vles were all members of the 2v8 shell that earned first in the petite final. Fellow junior Macey Schneder also has raced in the New York State Championships with Canisius, serving as coxswain for the varsity four boat.

RACING AWAY FROM HOME:
This year on the Canisius roster, only five rowers do not list New York as their home state. Kaitlyn Boxley (Tulsa, Okla.), Alaina Levy (Freeburg, Ill.), Gianna Perugini (Trinity, Fla.), Cecilia Reiser (Denver, Colo.) and Alice Schmidt (Perrysburg, Ohio) all list their hometowns outside of New York with the remaining 22 rowers all coming from the somewhere withing the Empire State.

UP NEXT:
The Blue and Gold return home for their lone home race of the spring season against Robert Morris on April 28.
