Track & Field Break Two More Records at the YSU Mid Major Invitational

Sophomore Arthur Hartel and senior Maura Jordan to lead the Canisius men's and women's indoor track teams by breaking two more school records were broken on Saturday at the Youngstown State Mid-Major Invitational at the Watson and Tressel Training Site in Youngstown, Ohio.

On the women's side Jordan broke another school record this time in the 200m where she crossed the line at 25.25. Jordan also took third in the 400m with a time of 58.10.

The Golden Griffins dominated the women's one mile sweeping the top three places. Kayla Schmidt took home the win with a time of 5:03.90, followed up by Jules Jones (5:04.57) and Marissa Silba (5:09.17). Jacqueline Appenheimer gave the Griffs their fourth top-10 finisher placing seventh crossing the line at 5:10.88. All of the times were new personal bests.

Jones and Silba both gave Canisius more top-10 finishes this time in the women's 800m with Jones placing eighth in 2:22.97 and Silba just following her in ninth with 2:23.00.

Schmidt got her second top-10 of the day in the women's 3000m placing second with a time of 10:17.15. Taylor Heschke placed 10th to give the Griffs another top-10 finish with a time of 11:03.67.

On the men's side Hartel led the charge breaking the program record in the 60m dash with a time of 7.62.

Max Chew gave the men their first top-10 finish of the day in the men's mile race coming in eighth with a personal best 4:22.90. Collin Rice gave the Griffs their second top-10 finish this time in the one mile run elite, also placing eighth with a time of 4:23.58 which is also a personal best.

Canisius closes out the regular-season portion of its indoor schedule when it competes in the RIT Friday Invitational on Feb. 9. Start time for the meet is slated for 4 p.m. at the Gordon Field House.
