Swimming and Diving Faces Binghamton in Dual-Meet

The Canisius Swimming and Diving returns to downtown Buffalo for dual-meet action against the Binghamton Bearcats. The meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at the Burt Flickinger Center on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The Golden Griffins and Bearcats have squared off for the past eight seasons with Binghamton winning the past five matchups on the men's side and last seven against the women's team. Last season's meet ended in a 207-87 win for the Binghamton men's team and 225-58 win for the Bearcats on the women's side.

AWARD WINNERS
Canisius freshman backstroke and individual medley swimmer Daphne Mead was named the Jersey Mike's women's swimmer of the week by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference this past Wednesday. She took first prize in all three individual races at SUNY Geneseo, winning the 100 backstroke (59.85), 200 IM (2:08.55) and breaking the Alumni Pool record in the 200 backstroke (2:06.41).

LAST TIME OUT
•Last Saturday, the SUNY Geneseo Knights took the victory over the Griffs on both men's and women's sides of the meet, earning a 154 -137 win for the men and a 160-139 victory in the women's event.

•The trio of sophomore Andi Mackey, junior Emily Blake and senior Ashley Allaire swept the podium in the 200 freestyle. Mackey came out on top with a time of 1:59.72, followed by Blake in second place (2:00.76) and Allaire in third (2:00.87). Allaire took home an individual victory in the 500 free with a time of 5:24.86.

•In the 200 breaststroke as sophomore SaraJo Gardner took first (2:29.0), followed by sophomore Cassandra Ercoli (2:34.29) and Tori Spacciapolli (2:34.39), respectively.

•Sophomore Elliot Somers and junior Halsted Barton each took a pair of individual wins. Barton took first in both men's distance races with a 10:07.78 in the 1000 freestyle and a 4:53.66 in the 500 free. Somers was the winner in the 100 backstroke (52.21) and 200 backstroke (1:55.21)

UP NEXT
Following Saturday's meet, the Griffs make their annual trip to Cleveland State for the Magnus Invitational. The meet will feature numerous collegiate swimming programs and be held through Nov. 21-23.
