Finalists for Canisius Male Athlete of the Year Announced

The finalists for the 2022-23 Canisius Male Athlete of the Year have been announced. Fans are encouraged to vote for their favorite finalist through 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 29. The winner will be announced on Friday, June 30.
 
In alphabetical order, the finalists are:

Jacob Barczewski – Ice Hockey
• All-Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA) Third Team selection
• Named AHA Postseason Most Outstanding Player after posting a 5-2 record with a 1.13 goals against average and a .963 save percentage in seven playoff contests
• AHA Postseason All-Tournament Team selection
• Posted a 2.65 goals against average and a .918 save percentage in 1882 minutes played
• Finished career ranked second in program history in career wins (44), third in career goals against average (2.64), fourth in career saves (2,719) and fifth in career save percentage (.917)
• Ranked second in the AHA in save percentage and fifth in goals against average

• 2023 MAAC Pitcher of the Year
• All-MAAC First Team selection for the second consecutive season
• Named an American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Division I All-Northeast Region Team 
• Paced the league in total strikeouts (119), strikeouts per nine innings (13.28), WHIP (1.14) and hits allowed per nine innings (7.14)
• In his regular-season start versus the Jaspers on May 12, Duffy recorded his 100th strikeout of the season, becoming the first pitcher in MAAC history to have multiple 100-strikeout campaigns

• Played in all eight tournaments (20 rounds) and posted a team-low scoring average of 74.5.
• Was the team's top individual performer three times
• Became the first Canisius sophomore since 2018 to earn All-MAAC honors after he finished tied for fifth at the 2023 MAAC Championship in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
• Shot a three-round total of 216 (E) at the 2023 MAAC Golf Championships, the lowest score for a Griff since the event moved to a 54-hole format in 2002
• Only player on the 2022-23 roster to shoot under 70 in a round, as he posted a 68 in the first round of the Cornell/Temple Invitational in Plymouth Meeting, Pa.

Andrew Perreault – Men's Cross Country/Track
• Raced in 18 events throughout the Fall and Spring
• Finished first and established a program record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship (May 6-7) with a time of 9:16.17
• Finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:35.04 at the Geneseo Early Season Invite (April 2-3)
• Placed fourth at the SPIRE Midwest Open (Jan. 21) in the 3,000 meter race with a time of 8:25.39
• Placed second in the mile at the MAAC Indoor Track and Field Championship (Feb. 18-19), finishing in 4:13.61
