Rowing Sweeps MAAC Weekly Awards

Canisius was honored with three MAAC Rowing weekly awards as they took home varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four honors the league office announced Wednesday. All three boats earned first-places finishes at the Black Rock Cup in Buffalo on April 30.
 
This is the first time this season that the Golden Griffins have won a MAAC rowing weekly award and the second consecutive season that the Blue and Gold swept the weekly awards, with the last instance coming almost exactly one year ago on May 4, 2022.
 
The 1V8 came in first with a time of 7:45.1 to defeat Robert Morris, who finished in second with a time of 8:02.8., by more than 15 seconds.
 
The Griffs 2V8 shell also earned a first-place finish with a time of 7:46.9. Their time was nearly a full 30 seconds faster than Robert Morris, who placed second with a time of 8:16.4.
 
The Blue and Gold's varsity four boat picked up their first win of the spring season, wrapping up their heat with a time of 8:51.1. Mercyhurst, the defending Division II national champions, came in second with a time of 9:00.4.
 
Canisius is back in action on May 12 when it races at the MAAC Championships in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Racing from Fish Creek is set to start at 9 a.m.
