Rowing Caps Off SHU Invite

The Canisius rowing team completed the first leg of a two-regatta weekend Saturday in the SHU Invite on the Housatonic River in Shelton, Conn.
 
The Varsity 8+ squad started off the day with a second-place finish at 6:57.1 The result trailed the first place Sacred Heart boat by 6.1 seconds.

The 2V8+ shell clocked a 6:59.7 result, which was good enough for second place while Sacred Heart notched its second victory of the day as the Pioneers boat finished the race at 6:50.6.
 
Canisius tallied its third second-place finish of the day after the Varsity 4+ boat finished at 8:09.5.

The 2V4+ boat rounded out the day, placing third with a time of 8:06.4 behind the Sacred Heart A and B boats.
 
RACE NOTES
• The Golden Griffins faced a three-team field including Canisius, Sacred Heart and Drake.
• Canisius complete the second leg of the weekend tomorrow at the Black Rock Cup.
• Conditions for the race included 5 mph south tailwind with decreasing tail current for each race throughout the morning. The current reversed for the Varsity 8+ race after the tide change.

NEXT UP
Canisius takes to the Niagara River Sunday as it hosts Robert Morris for the Black Rock Cup, with the first race going off at 11:30 a.m.
