Volleyball Announces Next two Members of 2023 Class

Canisius head volleyball coach Tom Hanna has announced the addition of transfer libero Jillian Hanna and incoming freshman outside hitter Lauren Hubert to the team's roster ahead of the 2023 season.

Hanna, who played at MAAC rival Marist this past season, garnered All-MAAC Freshman Team honors while with the Red Foxes. In her two seasons in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., she played in 29 matches, where she totaled 221 digs, 16 assists and ten kills. On the service line, Jillian had a team-best 31 service aces and ranked eighth in the MAAC for aces-per-set at .33.

Hanna enjoyed a decorated prep career at Theodore Roosevelt in Ohio where she was a captain for three years and varsity member for four. While at Theodore Roosevelt, she was a three time first-team all-conference selection (2018-2020) and two-time all-county selection in 2019 and 2020. The Kent, Ohio, native was also played for the Ohio Valley Region team at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships in 2016 and 2017, earning a silver medal in 2016.

"We're striving to be a high-end serve and pass team here at Canisius and Jillian's strengths lie in those areas" Hanna said. "Jillian will help us improve our sideout offense and will certainly put teams under pressure with her serving.  She's a great student-athlete that will help elevate our program in many ways."

Hubert, a native of western New York and four-year team captain, earned all-state honors for the past two seasons and All ECIC First-Team honors every season she was at Sweet Home. The Amherst, N.Y., product was also named the 2022 Section VI Scholar Athlete of the Fall and was named team MVP the last four years.

Hubert also excelled on the basketball court, getting named captain for all four years of her time at Sweet Home and earning team MVP honors the past two years.

"Lauren is a talented multi-sport athlete who will be a six-rotation player for us," Hanna said. "Her ability to pass and hit on both pins for us will definitely be important to our future success. We're adding another tremendous student-athlete to our program and look forward to Lauren joining us in August!"
