De Villard Awarded MAAC Men’s Co-Swimmer of the Week

Freshman freestyle and backstroke swimmer Marin de Villard was recognized by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference as the league announced its weekly awards on Wednesday.

De Villard was chosen as the men's co-swimmer of the week, along with Lucas Racevicius of Rider, after this record-breaking day in the pool against the University of Rochester. Last Saturday, de Villard broke the Speegle Wilbraham Center pool record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:52.50, while also taking first place in the event.

The rookie from Biarritz, France, also took first prize in the the 200 free (1:43.13), 500 free (4:55.16) and took first in the 200 free relay (1:27.76) alongside Bronson Benes, Sam Vidal and Alexander Hiltbrand, finishing with 21.60 split time.

De Villard's time in the 200 back against Rochester also ranks as the third best time in the MAAC for the 2023-24 season. He also ranks seventh in the conference in the 200 freestyle and sixth in the 100 back.

The men and women swimming and diving teams will continue their 2023-24 campaign on Saturday, hosting SUNY Geneseo for their home opener at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, N.Y. Start time is slated for noon.
