Rowing Performs Well at Head of the Niagara

The Canisius rowing team competed in their first event of the year at the Head of the Niagara in intercollegiate rowing action Sunday morning at West Side Rowing Club.
 
In the Griffs first race of the day, the Canisius varsity 8 shell came in second with a time of 10:54.22 while the second varsity 8 boat placed third at 11:29.48. Mercyhurst, the 2022 Division II national champions, finished first with a time of 10:37.55.
 
In the women's collegiate novice 4+ race, the Canisius novice 4 A boat, comprised of Grace Metnick, Katie Bapst, Kaitlyn Boxley, Francesca DiCamillo and Gwen Orluk, finished first with a time of 12:50.18. The Canisius Novice 4 B shell came in second with a time of 13:22.59 with the Novice 4 C boat rounding out the top-three with a time of 13:58.09.
 
In Canisius' final race of the day, the women's collegiate 4+, the varisty 4 A boat, led by Morgan Marsallo, Destiny Severn, Addie Naylor, Skylar Vles and Hannah Kenefick, would claim first place with a time of 12:16.26. The Canisius varsity 4 B boat would come in second at 13:00.55 with the varsity 4 C boat rounding out the top-three with a final time of 13:08.34.

RACE NOTES:
  • Today's race marked the third time in the last five years they started at home.
  • 10 Griffs made their collegiate debut for the Blue and Gold with six of the 10 being featured in the 2v8 shell.
  • Both Mercyhurst and Buffalo were scratched for the women's collegiate novice 4 race
UP NEXT:
The Blue and Gold will head to the Steel City to race in the Yinzer Cup, hosted by Robert Morris, on Oct. 21.
