Swimming and Diving Kicks off 2023-24 Season at Marist

The Canisius swimming and diving team will begin their 2023-24 Campaign on Friday at 11 a.m., traveling to face MAAC rival Marist at the McCann Natatorium in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

•Coming into the new season, the women's team was picked to finish fifth in the standings in the MAAC Coaches Preseason Poll. The men's team was picked to finish sixth in the conference in the recently released poll.
•The team will be led by women's team captains senior Jordan O'Connor, senior Chloe Yoviene and graduate student Isabel Sapio. The men's team will be captained by junior Nick Kishbaugh, senior Alexander Hiltbrand and senior Mario Moretti.
•Scott Vanderzell will enter his 15th season as the Golden Griffin Swimming and Diving head coach, coming off fifth place finishes for both men's and women's teams in the 2023 MAAC championships.
•Throughout the 2023 MAAC championship meet, The Blue and Gold's relays broke seven of the 10 program records with the Griffs breaking 14 records in total and swimming 67 best times across the four days.
•The Griffs will welcome 19 newcomers to the pool, with 11 freshmen added to the women's team and eight freshmen added to the men's side.

Up Next:
The Griffs will continue their road schedule on Oct. 21, traveling to the University of Rochester to compete against Siena and the host Yellowjackets in tri-meet action.
