Multiple School Records Fall as Indoor Track Competes in SPIRE Midwest Open

Four school records were broken Saturday as the Canisius men's and women's indoor track teams took part in the SPIRE Midwest Open at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

For the men, freshman Braden Tent set a school record in the men's 600-meter race, claiming seventh place with a time of 1:24.82. Junior Ronan McDonald crossed the finish line less than four-tenths of a second back of Tent to take eighth (1:25.18).

Freshman Brody Jones fashioned a freshman record for the Griffs in the 800-meter run as he claimed fourth place with a time of 1:55.64. Fellow freshman Arthur Hartel established a school record in the 60-meter dash, posting a time of 7.90 seconds.

The men's 3,000-meter run saw senior Tom Appenheimer (8:25.12) and senior Andrew Perreault (8:25.39) turn in a 3-4 finish for the Griffs. Graduate student Michael Peppy took 11th place in the race with a time of 8:30.92.

In the women's 400-meter dash, junior Maura Jordan set a program mark with a time of 1:00.25 to claim second place in the event.

Canisius had a pair of runners finish in the top 10 of the women's one-mile race as seniors Marissa Silba (5:11.25) and Olivia Moran (5:11.45) placed sixth and seventh, respectively. Junior Jules Jones gave the Griffs a third top-15 finisher in the event as she claimed 11th with a time of 5:16.00.

Freshman Jacqueline Appenheimer and sophomore Taylor Heschke gave the Blue and Gold another pair of top-10 finishers as Appenheimer took fourth (10:42.49) and Heschke placed ninth (11:01.02) in the 3,000-meter race.
