Volleyball Sweeps MAAC Weekly Awards

The Canisius volleyball team pulled off a clean sweep, winning all three Molten Volleyball MAAC Weekly Awards, the league office announced on Tuesday. Senior outside hitter Ella Loussia won MAAC Player of the Week, senior libero Bree Long claimed Libero of the Week and freshman setter Ella Bourque took home Rookie of the Week honors.

This was Loussia's first player of the week award this season, Long's second nod for libero of the week and Bourque's fourth time claiming rookie of the week. This is the first time in his career head coach Tom Hanna has ever had three of his players win all three MAAC weekly awards in the same week.

Loussia had an impressive weekend, posting 33 kills with an average of 4.71 kills-per-set. The West Bloomfield, Mich., native also totaled 17 digs, three service aces and averaged 5.71 points per set. Her three service aces brought her MAAC-leading total to 29, which also ties her for 11th in the nation for total service aces with Kylee Quigley of Jacksonville State and Megan Wilson of Oklahoma.

Bourque continued to make waves early in MAAC play with 76 assists and an average of 10.86 assists per set over the weekend. The Yorkville, Ill., native also added eight kills, 23 digs and a service ace as well. On Sept. 24 against Niagara, Bourque had the game-winning assist, setting up sophomore outside hitter Kara Zaucha for the kill to clinch the 3-1 victory against Niagara on the road.

Long, meanwhile, added to her resume with her second libero of the week nod after totaling 43 digs for an average of 6.14 digs per set. The Temperance, Mich., native also lent a helping hand, dishing out 12 assists to help Canisius sweep the weekend series against Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara.

The Blue and Gold are back in action on Oct. 1st when they head to New Rochelle, N.Y., to take on Iona.
