Silba, Perreault Win Silver at MAAC Championships

The Canisius men's and women's outdoor track teams competed Saturday in day one of the 2022 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Lawrenceville, N.J., at the Michael P. Brady Track & Field Complex. Despite tricky weather conditions, juniors Marissa Silba and Andrew Perreault took home silver medals for the Golden Griffins, while fifth year Leah Wardner, senior Libby Benzer and sophomore Maura Jordan all qualified for tomorrow's finals in their respective events.

Silba established a program record with her second-place finish in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 11:08.64, which was seven seconds faster than the previous record. Perreault also secured second in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:18.62, moving him up to third all-time in school history for the event.

In the women's 1500-meter run, Benzer qualified for tomorrow's finals with her 10th-place finish and time of 4:51.53. Jordan advanced to the finals in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 59.81, which was good for sixth place. Wardner was the final qualifier for the Griffs, running the 800 in a personal-best, 2:19.37, to post a seventh-place finish and the third-fastest time in school history.

Junior Tom Appenheimer fell just short of the podium in the men's 10000, placing fourth with his time of 30:33.53.

The MAAC Championships wrap up tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Michael P. Brady Track and Field Complex with those who qualified in Saturday's events, as well as competitors in the 5000-meter run and 4x400 and 4x800 relays.
