Consigli Earns Fifth MAAC Rookie of the Week Award

Freshman Peyton Consigli was named MAAC Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.

In two appearances in last weekend's series at Rider, Consigli earned a save while striking out four batters over 2.2 innings pitched. He did not allow a hit or run and issued just one walk.

Last Saturday, Consigli inherited a bases-loaded jam with one out in the ninth inning of a 4-2 contest. The Fonthill, Ontario, native evaded trouble by retiring the next two batters on strikes, to earn his fifth save of the season – which is a Canisius freshman record.

Consigli also appeared game in last Sunday's contest, striking out two batters in as many innings.

So far in 18 appearances this season, Consigli has a 4-2 record and a team-best 2.34 ERA. In 34.2 innings, he has allowed just 12 runs on 21 hits and has struck out 47 batters. On the year, opponents are batting just .172 off of the first-year pitcher.

In 12 MAAC games, Consigli is 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA in 19 innings of work. He has allowed six runs on nine hits and has struck out 29 batters. Conference opponents are batting .143 off Consigli this season.

Canisius will open its final regular season series tomorrow when the Golden Griffins host Monmouth at the Demske Sports Complex. First pitch is slated for noon.
