Rowing Opens Spring Season on Saturday

The Canisius women's rowing team opened its spring schedule in Rome, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon as the Golden Griffins squared off against four other schools — Colgate, Lehigh, MAAC foe Marist and fellow Buffalo school, D'Youville.

Canisius sent three shells to the event — a pair of varsity eights and a varsity four.

In the morning session, the pair of varsity eights were edged by its MAAC rival. The top varsity erg finished in 7:13.25, 11.08 seconds behind Marist. The second varsity eight clocked a time of 7:38.5, 16.30 seconds behind the Red Foxes.

The lone varsity four shell finished its morning heat with a time of 8:56.93. Marist finished the heat first with a time of 8:14.74.

Canisius' first varsity eight finished second to Colgate in the Petite Final (7:23.02). The second varsity eight was edged by Lehigh (7:47.6).

In the varsity four petite final, Canisius finished third (9:08.9), trailing D'Youville (8:39.8) and Colgate (8:46.8).

Head Coach Kerri Brace's Comments
"It was great to finally get out and race today. With such a young team, it was exciting to see them transfer all their winter training work onto the racecourse. We learned a lot about where we are starting from and what we have to do to get faster in the coming weeks."
