FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. Opening Tip
After becoming the first No. 11 seed to win a game at the MAAC Women's Basketball Championship, Canisius squares off against third-seeded Manhattan in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Hercules Tires MAAC Women's Basketball Championship from Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., on Thursday afternoon.

2. MAAC Tournament History
With its victory on Tuesday, Canisius is now 9-6 all-time in the first round at the MAAC Women's Basketball Championships.

The Griffs and Jaspers will be meeting for the first time in the postseason since a quarterfinal matchup in 2005 in Buffalo. Canisius snapped a three-game losing streak to the Jaspers in postseason play, before eventually capturing its first-ever MAAC Championship.

3. All-Academic Team
Seniors Kayla Jackson and Erika Joseph, junior Shaunae Brown and sophomore Dani Haskell were the Canisius quartet named to the MAAC All-Academic Team, the conference office announced Wednesday morning.

Brown, a human services major, and Joseph, a communications major, are two-time recipients of All-Academic Team honors. Both players were recognized last season. It is Jackson and Haskell's first time receiving the honor in their first year of eligibility for the award. Jackson is a psychology major, while Haskell is majoring in integrated marketing communications.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

4. Nusseibeh's MAAC Debut
With Tuesday's victory over Monmouth, Nusseibeh became the third Canisius head coach to win in their MAAC Women's Basketball Championship debut.

Since the Griffs joined the MAAC before the 1989-90 season, Mike Decillis and Terry Zeh were the other two head coaches to win a game in their inaugural MAAC Tournament appearance.

Decillis defeated Fairfield in overtime, 96-90, on Feb. 25, 1999 in his MAAC Tournament debut. Zeh defeated Manhattan, 60-54, in 2005 before winning the next two games to claim the program's first MAAC Tournament crown.

5. Haskell's Stellar Performance
Sophomore guard Dani Haskell shined in her debut at the MAAC Women's Basketball Championship on Tuesday. Haskell scored a game-high 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting against Monmouth, while adding five rebounds and six assists.

Haskell's 26 points were the most points by a Golden Griffin at a conference tournament since Shauna Geronzin had 27 against Fairfield on March 1, 2002. The 26-point performance is the most points by a Canisius player in her tournament debut on record.

She also became the third player to record at least 25 points, five rebounds and five assists in a game. It was the first time since D'Jhai Patterson-Ricks on Nov. 17, 2019 against St. Bonaventure (27 points, eight rebounds, five assists). Ashley Durham was the other player to do so, logging 25 points, eight rebounds and six assists against Rider on Jan. 20, 2013.
