Steffan, Consigli Named to MAAC Weekly Awards

Graduate student Mike Steffan earned MAAC Player of the Week honors and freshman Peyton Consigli was tabbed the MAAC Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Steffan batted a team-best .529 in Canisius' four-game weekend series against Pitt at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla. The Williamsville, N.Y., native hit three home runs, leading to a 1.059 slugging percentage. During the weekend, Steffan had 10 RBI, all of which came during a pair of Golden Griffin victories. He recorded five RBI in each contest, becoming the first Canisius player to have multiple five-RBI games in a season since Ryan Stekl in 2018.

Following the opening week of games, Steffan leads the MAAC in slugging percentage, hits (9), RBI and home runs. Steffan's three home runs are currently tied for the second-most by a Division I player, only trailing N.C. State freshman Tommy White (5).

Consigli earned the victory in his collegiate debut on Sunday, pitching 3.1 innings of relief and allowing a run while striking out two Pitt batters. The Fonthill, Ontario, native yielded just two hits during his outing, leading to a .182 opponent batting average. He is the first Canisius player to earn Rookie of the Week honor since Mike DeStefano in 2020.

Canisius returns to action this weekend when the Griffs travel to Morehead, Ky., for a four-game series against Morehead State. The series begins Friday with a single game at 3 p.m. All games of the set will be broadcast on ESPN+.
