Indoor Track Sets Multiple PR’s on Day One of MAAC Championships

The Canisius men's and women's indoor track teams concluded day one of the 2022 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships in New York City on Saturday.

Junior Andrew Perreault and senior Libby Benzer highlighted the day with strong showings in the one-mile prelims. Perreault posted a fourth-place finish in the men's event with a time of 4:14.85, while Benzer established a school record of 5:05.59 in the women's mile. Both runners qualified for the finals tomorrow.

Junior Marissa Silba crossed the finish line in the one-mile run in 5:15.78, which marks a new personal-best time by almost 18 seconds. Sophomore Stephanie Seyfang enjoyed a PR of her own in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 10.27 seconds.

In the men's 60-meter dash, sophomore Thomson Chew established a school record as he finished the race in 8.21 seconds.

Sophomore Maura Jordan posted a time of 1:01.56 in the 400-meter dash, which was good for 10th place. In the 800, sophomore Kevin Board and freshman Jacob Raichel both set PR's, recording times of 2:02.40 and 2:03.91, respectively.

Fifth-year Leah Wardner secured a 14th place finish in the 800-meter with a career-best time of 2:20.96, while freshman Taylor Heschke recorded a personal-best time in the 5000 with a time of 19:08.89.

In the men's 5000-meter final, junior Tom Appenheimer finished in seventh-place, crossing the finish line in 14:42.26.

The MAAC Championships conclude Sunday at 5 p.m. at the New Balance Track & Field Center with those who qualified in Saturday's events.
