Minto, Pollack Earn Gold, Break Program Records in Final Day of Swimming and Diving Championships

Freshman Archie Minto and graduate student Sage Pollack ended their strong seasons on a high note, becoming the 2022 MAAC Champion in the 200 fly and 100 free events, respectively, on the final day of the Swimming and Diving Championships at the Burt Flickinger Center.

Minto swam a time of 1:47.87, claiming gold and establishing a program record. The Burley in Wharfedale, England, native broke Shawn Parkhurst's record-setting time of 1:48.16, which was set in 2012-13. Minto went a perfect eight-for-eight in the 200 fly this season.

Pollack claimed her second gold of the meet, finishing the event in 51.26 seconds. The New City, N.Y., native established a program record in the preliminary event, swimming a 51.19, which broke Ashlynn Gilfillan's 51.71 time from 2019-20.

Like the 50 free, Pollack was the first to touch the wall in all eight attempts in the 100 free event during the 2021-22 campaign.

Pollack also became the third Canisius female in program history to earn two first-place finishes in the same season at a MAAC Championship.

Additionally, the graduate student is the first ever Golden Griffin to earn gold in the 50 and 100 free events at the championship meet.

Senior Liam O'Connell concluded his strong season by earning third place in the 1650. O'Connell swam the event in 15:42.19.

Both the men's and women's teams finished in seventh place in the overall standings. The women earned a total of 294 points and the men picked up 251 points.
