Minto and Janson Named MAAC Swimmers of the Week

Sophomore Archie Minto and freshman Lana Janson were named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's Men's and Women's Swimmer of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.

During the Magnus Cup in Cleveland, Minto established four individual program records and was part of a record-breaking relay.

The Burley in Wharfedale, England, native broke a pair of
Tommy Kirch's 2017-18 records, swimming a 44.94 in the 100 free, breaking Kirch's 45.97 while also touching the wall at 1:50.57 in the 200 IM, topping Kirch's time of 1:51.40.

Minto also earned the record in the 100 fly with a time of 48.35, beating
Dan Dirrigl's 49.14 from the 2017-18 campaign and bested his time from last season in the 200 fly, touching the wall at 1:47.28.

The second-year swimmer was part of the 400 free relay along with sophomore
Ben Yant, senior Alex Hiltbrand and graduate Liam O'Connell. The quartet combined for a 3:04.82, topping the 3:05.77 time originally established in 2011-12.
Minto holds the most individual records in program history for a Canisius male swimmer among current record holders.

Janson continued her dominance in the pool, establishing three program records over the weekend in the Buckeye State. The freshman broke the school record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:03.50, besting
Kelsey Childress' 2:06.82 from the 2019-20 campaign. Janson also bested her time from earlier in the season in the 100 breast, touching the wall at 1:04.30 and topped Rebecca Anthone's 2017-18 time of 1:51.12 in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.98.

The Cape Town, South Africa, native holds the most individual records in program history for a Canisius female swimmer amongst current record holders.

As a team, the Golden Griffins broke ten program records during the weekend while establishing 52 personal best times.

This marks the second straight season Canisius has swept the swimming weekly honors twice in a campaign. O'Connell and
Sage Pollack both garnered the honor two times during the 2021-22 season.

The Griffs conclude the 2022 calendar year by heading to Olean, N.Y. to face Little Three rival St. Bonaventure on Dec. 3. Diving will begin at 10 a.m. while the swimming portion of the meet will start at noon from the Reilly Center Pool.
