Duffy, Grant and Consigli Earn Canadian Baseball Network Honors

Canisius baseball players Matt Duffy, Max Grant and Peyton Consigli were all named to the 23rd annual Canadian Baseball Network (CBN) All-Canadian college teams, which were announced Tuesday.

Duffy and Grant each earned first-team accolades, while Consigli was named to the second team. Canisius is the only school to have multiple selections in this year's edition of the CBN All-Canadian college teams, and the three Golden Griffin honorees are the only players from a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) school.

Duffy, the 2022 MAAC Championship Most Valuable Player and a First-Team All-MAAC selection, went 8-2 on the mound for the Griffs last season, posting a 3.81 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP in 104.0 innings of work. The Burlington, Ontario native set school and league records with 124 strikeouts, recording six or more punchouts in 12 of his 17 appearances during the campaign. Duffy pitched into the sixth inning or later in 14 of his 16 starts, highlighted by a complete-game effort in Canisius' 11-0 run-rule victory over Niagara in the opening game of the 2022 MAAC Championship. He was one of three Canisius players to be named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Regions Teams following the 2022 season.

A Second Team All-American selection by both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings, Grant was one of two Canisius players to start all 54 games in the 2022 season.

The 2022 MAAC Player of the Year and an All-MAAC First Team selection, Grant led the conference and ranked among the top-15 players in the nation with a .398 batting average. He also paced the circuit with 90 hits, the third most in a season by a Canisius player in school history. Grant also hit 10 home runs, recorded 53 RBI, scored 56 runs, slashed .398/.489/.646 and was successful on seven of his eight stolen base attempts.

The Fredericton, New Brunswick, product was named to MAAC All-Championship Team after hitting .440 (10-of-18) with six RBI during the conference's postseason tournament, helping the Griffs capture the fourth MAAC Championship title in program history, and he went on to be named the Canisius Male Athlete of the Year, the highest individual award presented to a Canisius student-athlete.

A native of Fonthill, Ontario, Consigli finished his inaugural campaign with the Blue and Gold with a 4-2 record and a 3.15 ERA while recording a team-high seven saves out of the bullpen.

The MAAC Rookie and Relief Pitcher of the Year, Consigli allowed just 27 hits and 17 runs (14 earned) in 40.0 innings of work. He struck out 53 batters and issued 21 walks while limiting opponents to a .189 batting average, the lowest opponent batting average for a Canisius pitcher in the 2022 season.

Consigli was named to two Freshman All-American Teams, and was also honored as the Canisius Male Rookie of the Year for the 2021-22 academic year. He was one of 18 relief pitchers selected to Collegiate Baseball's Freshmen All-American Team, powered by Diamond Sports, on June 8 and he was tabbed a NCBWA Second Team Freshman All-American on June 13. Consigli is the seventh player in program history to earn Freshman All-American honors, and he is the first since Ryan Stekl in 2015.

Fifty-two baseball experts from Canada and the U.S. voted for the Canadian Baseball Network's annual college All-Canadian teams, which have been recognized since 2000. The Canadian Baseball Network is regarded as the premier source of information on Canadian college players. Pete Berryman was the primary statistician for this project.
