Cooper, Janson and Minto Establish Program Records as Swimming and Diving Concludes Weekend at Magnus Cup

Freshman Lana Janson and sophomore Archie Minto both broke a pair of program records while freshman Joe Cooper also broke a record as the Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving team concluded action at the Magnus Cup Saturday in collegiate swimming and diving action in Cleveland, Ohio.

The men placed sixth in the invitational out of ten participating schools with a score of 561.50 while the women's squad finished eighth out of 12 schools, earning a team score of 234.

Xavier earned the top spot on the men's side, picking up 1,076 points. Akron's 1,532.50 points made them the winners in the women's bracket.

For Canisius, Minto earned first place in the men's 200 fly, touching the wall in 1:47.28, which bests his 1:47.87 MAAC Championship time in February.

He also finished third in the 100 fly Friday, swimming a 48.35, which tops Dan Dirrigl's 49.14 program record, which was established in 2017-18.

Graduate Liam O'Connell garnered fourth place in the men's 1650 free with a time of 15:52.09. Cooper took home seventh place, touching the wall at 15:59.23 after earning sixth in the 400 IM on Friday with a time of 4:02.57. That time toppled Matt Moessinger's 4:05.09, which was established in 2011-12.

Freshman Sam Vidal used a time of 2:01.78 to finish second in the 200 breast for the Blue and Gold.

Fellow first year Lana Janson also finished seventh, swimming to a time of 51.75 in the 100 free. On Friday, Janson bested her 1:05.15 in the 100 breast by swimming a 1:04.59, which is the best time in program history. The Cape Town, South Africa, native also topped Kelsey Childress' time of 2:06.82 from the 2019-20 season by swimming a 2:03.83 in the 200 IM.
