Swimming and Diving Competes in First Day of Magnus Cup

The Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving team began the first day of the Magnus Cup Thursday in collegiate swimming and diving action in Cleveland, Ohio.

Sophomore Archie Minto paced the men's team, earning a pair of top-ten finishes. Minto placed third in the men's 200 IM, swimming a 1:50.67. The second year swimmer also finished tenth in the 50 free with a time of 21.68.

Freshman Joe Cooper placed fifth in the men's 500 free with a time of 4:31.94 while graduate Liam O'Connell garnered eighth, touching the wall at 4:32.20 in the event.

Freshman Lana Janson was the sixth swimmer to finish in the women's 200 IM with a time of 2:03.83.

The women's 200 free relay earned a ninth-place finish, turning in a time of 1:35.51. The relay consisted of freshman Hannah Brainard, senior Grace Van Buren, Janson and junior Jordan O'Connor.

The men's 200 free relay also placed in the top ten, garnering sixth. The quartet of Minto, sophomore Ben Yant, O'Connell and senior Alex Hiltbrand swam a 1:23.11.

After the first day, the men are currently in sixth place with 67.5 points and the women sit in eighth with a total of 169.5 points.
