Cross Country Finishes Season at NCAA Northeast Regional

The Canisius men's and women's cross country teams took part in the NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Friday at Van Cortlandt Park in The Bronx.

The Golden Griffin men placed 22nd with a team total of 601, just four points shy of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Marist (597). The women finished in 27th place with a team score of 812, six points in front of Hofstra (818).

Syracuse claimed the men's race with a team result of 65 points. Harvard (89) took second, while Cornell (135) and Providence (135) finished in a tie for third. Fellow MAAC member Iona claimed fifth (137).

Providence won the women's race with a team total of 71 points, 20 points in front of second-place Syracuse (91). Host Columbia (99) took third while fellow Ivy-League member Harvard placed fourth (121).

Senior Tom Appenheimer paced the Canisius men, finishing in 51st place with a time of 30:45.6 over the 10K course. Junior Thomson Chew (31:54.7/112th) and graduate student Michael Peppy (32:07.7/134th) followed, while graduate student Richard Moore (32:40.9/149th) and junior Kevin Board (32:48.5/159th) rounded out Canisius' scoring runners.

Harvard's Graham Blanks placed first in the men's race, crossing the line in 29:14.1, five seconds ahead of teammate Acer Iverson (29:19.7). Columbia's Tyler Berg placed third (29:26.2), while Cornell Perry MacKinnon took fourth (29:32.0)

For the Canisius women, senior Marissa Silba led the way, finishing the 6k race in 22:50.13 (128th). Fellow senior Olivia Moran crossed the line less than four seconds after Silba (22:53.5/133rd) while junior Jules Jones (23:15.1/162nd) and freshman Jacqueline Appenheimer (23:15.5/163rd) finished less than half a second apart from each other.

Harvard's Maia Ramsden claimed the women's individual title with a time of 20:26.6. Syracuse's Savannah Roark (20:50.6) finished second, while Providence's Jane Buckley (20:27.4) took third and UMass Lowell's Kenzie Doyle (20:29.4) finished fourth.
