O’Connell, Minto and Janson Help Swimming and Diving Beat Rochester

Graduate student Liam O'Connell and sophomore Archie Minto each won three races to help lead the Canisius men's swimming and diving program past the University of Rochester 200-94 at the Burt Flickinger Center Pool in downtown Buffalo Saturday afternoon.

Despite three first-place finishes by freshman Lana Janson, the Canisius women's team fell to Siena by the score of 166-128. The women's event against the University of Rochester was a scrimmage, where the Golden Griffins defeated the Yellowjackets, 209-85.

O'Connell's first win of the day came in the 1,000-free, where he posted a time of 9:54.19. The Hamburg, N.Y., native also scored a first-place finish in the 200-yard free before capping his afternoon with a win in the 500-yard free after he touched the wall in 4:43.71.

Minto, the reigning MAAC Male Swimmer of the Week, scored a win in the 100-yard butterfly with his time of 1:50.57, a time that was nearly four seconds in front of the race's second-place finisher. He won the 100-yard butterfly with his time of 49.69, and then finished his day with a win in the 200-yard IM after he posted a time of 1:57.49.

Freshman Samuel NyKamp won both the men's 1-meter and 3-meter diving events to help the Griffs' cause. He scored the victory in the 1-meter event with his total score of 312.45 and then he won the 3-meter competition with his score of 320.85

In the women's event, Janson picked up where she left off from last weekend, winning three different races on the day. She started her day with a first-place finish in the 200-yard free race, and then won the 100-yard breaststroke race with her time of 1:05.87. Her time of 2:23.52 in the 200-yard breaststroke race earned her another first-place finish, as she completed the race more than five seconds in front of the next closest finisher.

Junior Jordan O'Connor took first-place honors in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events, while graduate student diver Adriana Bolender placed second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions.
