Bourque and Long Tabbed Together for MAAC Weekly Awards Again

For the second time this season, Canisius volleyball freshman setter Ella Bourque and senior libero Bree Long were both honored with Molten Volleyball Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference weekly awards in the same week. Long was tabbed as libero of the week for the third time this season, matching a career high, while Bourque was named rookie of the week for the sixth time.

Long had another impressive week, posting 50 digs with an average of 5.56 per set, the most of any player this week who played multiple matches. The Temperance, Mich., native also chipped in five service aces with four coming against Marist in the Golden Griffins 3-1 victory on Oct. 15. She also had one kill, five assists and totaled six points over the weekend.

For the sixth time this year, Bourque was the top MAAC rookie as she totaled 91 assists with a 10.11 assist per set average, the most of any rookie nominated this week. The Yorkville, Ill., native had four service aces, five kills, 18 digs and six blocks with one being a block solo against Siena on Oct. 16. No player in Canisius history has ever won six weekly awards in a season, establishing a program record.

The Blue and Gold are back in action on Oct. 22 when they head to Connecticut to face Quinnipiac for the second time this year. The match will air on ESPN3 with first serve set for 1 p.m.
