Swimming and Diving Splits with Marist in Season Opener

The Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving teams earned a split in their first meet of the 2022-23 season Friday morning.

On the women's side, the Golden Griffins defeated Marist by a score of 164.5-135.5, while the men's team suffered a 151-147 setback to the Red Foxes.


In women's diving, graduate student
Adriana Bolender garnered the top spot in the 1-meter (205.50) and a second-place finish in the 3-meter (163.58) dives.

The women's swimming team was backed by freshman
Lana Janson and junior Jordan O'Connor. In her first collegiate meet, Janson was the first to touch the wall in the 100 (1:06.10) and 200 breast (2:24.31) events along with the 200 IM (2:09.95). O'Connor garnered the top spot in the 100 (59.30) and 200 back (2:10.31) events as well as the 200 medley relay (1:49.38) and 400 free relay (3:39.92).

Sophomore
Ashley Allaire and senior Grace Van Buren also picked up individual first-place finishes in the meet, picking up the top spot in the 200 free (1:59.18) and 50 free (24.84), respectively.

On the men's side, sophomore
Archie Minto paced the squad, grabbing three first-place finishes. Minto was the first to touch the wall in the 100 (49.61) and 200 fly (1:50.30) events along with the 200 IM (1:55.27).

Freshman
Sam Vidal and fifth year Liam O'Connell both garnered a pair of top spots for the Blue and Gold.

Vidal earned first-place finishes in the 100 (58.55) and 200 breast (2:11.18) while O'Connell grabbed the top spot in the 200 (1:44.21) and 500 free (4:44.27) events.


Fellow first year
Joe Cooper rounded out the first-place finishes for the men's team, picking up a victory in the 1000 free (9:57.61).

Up Next

• Canisius returns to the pool on Saturday in a dual meet with Binghamton. The swimming portion will once again take place at the Tonawanda Aquatic Center while diving will occur in the Koessler Athletic Center Pool on the campus of Canisius College. Both start times are slated for 2 p.m.
