FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
1. Setting the Pitch
The Canisius men's soccer team plays its first road contest of the fall 2021 season on Friday, facing Little Three rival St. Bonaventure at the Marra Athletics Complex in Olean, N.Y. Kickoff is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.

2. Last Time Out
UC Riverside's Andrew Alexander netted the golden goal in the 99th minute to lift the Highlanders past Canisius, 2-1, in non-conference men's soccer action at a muggy Demske Sports Complex this past Sunday.

Riley Wagner scored the lone Golden Griffins' goal late in the second half, depositing his first collegiate goal behind UC Riverside goalkeeper Carlos Gonzalez in the 85th minute.

Alessandro Fabiano set up Wagner's goal on a corner kick. Fabiano's ball curled inside the 8-yard box and the sophomore was able to head the ball past UC Riverside's diving goalkeeper.

3. Little Three Rivalry Renewed
Canisius and St. Bonaventure are meeting for the 51st time on Friday. The Bonnies have the advantage in the all-time series, 25-18-7, and are 12-4-4 on home turf. Canisius boasts a 12-7-3 record at home against St. Bonaventure.

The Bonnies snapped Canisius' eight-game win streak in their last contest, back in 2019, also in Olean. Before the loss, Canisius strung together four straight clean sheets over its Little Three rival.

Across the last five road matches against St. Bonaventure, Canisius has a 4-1 record and has outscored the Bonnies, 9-5.

4. Needing Extra Time
Canisius' first two matches of the season have both gone to overtime. It marks the first time since 2012 that the opening two fixtures have gone to at least one extra period.

The Griffs had not played back-to-back overtime contests since 2017, drawing in consecutive home games against Iona (Oct. 28) and Manhattan (Nov. 1).

There have been four previous instances in program history where Canisius has played three straight overtime contests (1995, last two games in 1999 and first game of 2000, 2009 and 2011).

5. Catalano's Strong Start
Junior goalkeeper Spencer Catalano has started the fall 2021 season on the right note, ranking in the top-15 nationally in two goalkeeping categories.

Catalano ranks eighth in goalkeeper minutes (208:08) and 13th in saves (11). His 208 minutes are the most by a MAAC goalkeeper, while his 11 stops are the second-most, trailing Marist's Sam Ilin (12).
