Male Rookie of the Year Nominees Unveiled

The finalists for the 2020-21 Canisius Male Rookie of the Year award are now online. Fans are encouraged to vote for their favorite finalist through 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 1. The winner will be unveiled on Friday, July 2.
 
This year's finalists are:
 
Carlin Dick – Baseball
• An All-MAAC Rookie Team selection, Dick started 17 of his 23 games during his rookie campaign on Main Street.

• The Abbotsford, British Columbia, product batted .348 with eight doubles, a triple, two home runs and 12 RBI

• Dick crossed the plate 22 times during the 2021 campaign, highlighted by a five-run performance in the nightcap of a May 12 twin bill vs. Saint Peter's, tying the program record.

• Dick recorded 17 walks during the season, 14 of which came during the Golden Griffins' final 13 games.

Matt Duffy – Baseball
• Duffy made six appearances on the mound for Canisius during the 2021 season, three of which were starts

• The MAAC All-Rookie Team selection fashioned a 3-0 record with a 2.67 ERA in 27.0 innings while striking out 30 batters and walking just five.

• The Burlington, Ontario native limited opponents to a .212 batting average, scattering 21 hits over his 27.0 innings of work.

• Duffy pitched a complete game versus Fairfield at the MAAC Baseball Championship, striking out 10 while yielding just four hits, one walk and one run on his way to earning All-Championship Team recognition.

Max Grant - Baseball
• Grant started 26 of his 28 appearances during the 2021 season, playing at second base, third base and catcher.
 
• A MAAC All-Rookie Team honoree, Grant posted a team-high .386 batting average with a double, two triples and 17 RBI

• The Fredericton, New Brunswick, product drew 18 walks and struck out just 12 times in 101 trips to the plate.
 
• Grant was named to the All-Championship Team at the MAAC Baseball Championship after batting .556 (5-for-9) in the Championship Round at Fairfield.  

Max Koutznetsov – Hockey
• Kouznetsov took part in all 17 games played during his rookie season, helping Canisius advance to the championship game of the Atlantic Hockey Tournament for the third time in program history.

• A native of Voorhees, N.J., Kouznetsov scored four goals and added three assists for seven points.

• The centerman ranked third on squad with 112 faceoff wins, winning double-digit draws on three occasions.

• Kouznetsov tallied the game-tying goal in an eventual 4-3 overtime win versus No. 19 Army in AHA Tournament semifinals.

Keegan Kozack – Men's Lacrosse
• A MAAC All-Rookie Team selection, Kozack started all 10 games during his rookie campaign, pacing the squad in goals (19) and ranking second on the team in points (24).  
 
• A native of Delta, British Columbia, Kozack ended the 2021 campaign tied for the team and league lead with six man-up goals.
 
• Kozack also paced the Griffs with two game-winning goals, scoring the decisive tallies in victories against Siena (March 6) and St. Bonaventure (April 6).  

• A MAAC All-Championship Team selection, Kozack recorded multiple points on seven occasions, highlighted by a trio of hat tricks.  

Hunter Parucki – Men's Lacrosse
• A MAAC All-Rookie Team pick, Parucki started all 10 games played during rookie campaign, ending the season ranked second on the team in assists (9) and third in points (16).

• The Lancaster, N.Y., product tallied multiple points on five occasions, highlighted by a pair of three-point performances in consecutive contests versus Manhattan (March 13) and Siena (March 20).

• Scored two goals in an 11-9 triumph versus Little Three rival St. Bonaventure (April 6).


• Tallied a goal and an assist in 14-13 victory over Marist in the MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship quarterfinal round (April 30).
